Mj Hwangbo, &NOW Residency January 2020

Factory Media Centre is Hamilton’s not-for-profit artist-driven resource centre for film, video, new media, installation, sound art, and other multimedia art forms. Through our residency programs we strive to provide space, time, and resources to artists for the production of new work, or to continue developing a body of work.

We accept proposals annually in the Fall-Winter months (October – December) for the following year, and occasionally on a case-by-case basis for smaller programs as they arise pending availability in the current programming schedule. If you have any questions or interest in partaking in a residency, email us at info@factorymediacentre.ca!

&NOW Production Residency & Scholarship

Factory Media Centre annually hosts our &NOW Production Residency & Scholarship (PR&S) program each winter. This is a valuable opportunity for artists and creators to utilize the space and resources at FMC to produce a new work, or continue a developing body of work. Selections are based on project originality, its potential for artistic growth, and the use and integration of FMC as a production location.

Recognizing that our communities are still impacted by the pandemic, our &NOW Residency Program structure embraces a hybrid model of artists working in-person at the FMC gallery and studios, and remotely online on a platform of the artist(s)s’ choice.

Applicants for our &NOW Residency Program must be members with Factory Media Centre. Click here to learn more about becoming a member.

Factory Media Centre is committed to equity in all aspects of its operations especially our programs. We accept proposals from artists, collectives, filmmakers, community members and curators at all stages of career levels which display local and regional experimental media artwork. We encourage applications from Black and Indigenous artists, persons with disabilities, ethnic or racial minorities, immigrants and refugees, Francophones, LGBTQI+ persons, women, and persons of all socio-economic walks of life.

Factory Media Centre’s Programming Committee and members of the community select proposals through a group jurying process. Jury members must identify any conflicts of interests before taking part in the selection process. Conflicts of interest include Artists, Artwork, or Projects by family or friends, and projects which would directly benefit the juror themself. Artists who have been selected for an exhibition or residency may not be selected again for a minimum of three years.
