Serena Zena: Technical Residency

Factory Media Centre is thrilled to welcome Serena Zena as our 2024/25 Technical Resident!

During her residency, Serena will be focusing on producing work that explores eco-futurism and Asian futurism through scenography installation utilizing XR media such as projection mapping.

About the Artist

Serena Zena (she/her) is an emerging artist and curator based in Canada. Her multidisciplinary practice delves into the lived experiences and cultural narratives of the Asian diaspora in Canada. Central to her work are themes of identity, intergenerational relationships, and Asian futurism. Her practice blends storytelling with both traditional and emergent media ranging from textiles to extended-reality (XR). Creating imagined worlds from long ago, or perhaps far in the future, Zena draws inspiration from film, solarpunk, food, XR culture, and her own experience growing up Chinese-Canadian.

About the Residency

Our Technical Residency program provides artists at any level in their career in-kind access to all of FMC’s gear, studios, and editing facilities for up to six months. This is an opportunity for artists who have a defined vision for a project or are working towards an exhibition to utilize the space and resources at FMC.
