Factory Media Centre is pleased to share that Maria Simmons & Joshua MacDonald will be joining FMC as our April – May 2019 Resident Artists. FMC’s Production Residency is an opportunity for artists and creators to utilize the space and resources at FMC to produce a new work or continue a developing body of work.
Cadence is a responsive sound sculpture built by Maria Simmons and Joshua MacDonald during their residency at Factory Media Centre. The sculpture is comprised of organ pipes reclaimed from a historical building in Hamilton and constructed wind and action systems. They have taken inspiration from traditional organ designs, including three main components: the air supply, bellows, and pipes. However, these elements have been realized in an unconventional way, borrowing from history to create an instrument that behaves more like a being than something being played. The finished piece will be shown at the Hamilton Artist Inc. in June.
