Malitzin Cortés
June 15 – July 28, 2023
Closing Reception & Performance: July 20 | 7PM
AUTO{}Construcción examines the challenges proposed to the collective imagination of the cyberpunk megalopolises of the future in the 60s, 70s and 80s have evolved and how these changes impact the architecture of the urban environment in relation to changing social and economic phenomena executed by “non-architects” around the world. The work responds to this question by exploring the relationship between speculative architecture and the informal housing phenomena through an audiovisual concert utilizing live coding and algorithm-driven gaming experience. The work delves into how paradigms of the urban environment in the future have changed and how informality shapes habitability through self-construction and collective learning. The research showcases live coding techniques to create hybrid scenic experiences akin to live cinema and video games. The video work under the theme of Intermedial Media Architecture contributes to the field of Media Architecture through the hybridizations of cinema, immersive experiences and video games, evolving. machine learning into new scenarios and narratives for future architecture typologies.
AUTO{}Construcción was featured in the Media Architecture Biennale on June 15th, 2023 at 8:00am in the Exhibitions and Prototypes panel presentation. Check back soon for more information
About the artist:
Malitzin Cortés (CNDSD) is a musician, speculative architect, and creative technologist. As an artist, she investigates the forms in which the sound, the architecture, the technology and the science hold the ability to be great diffusers of discoveries and devices of self-reflection that can unleash speculative worlds. Through live coding processes, experimental sound, CGI, game software, installation, virtual reality and enhancement and performance, I seek to merge the physical and the digital through new models of social interaction and politics capable of providing new forms of relationship from utopia and the fiction in this constant state of crisis and also of hope. She is a professor and researcher at the Universidad CENTRO | Design, Film and Television in the field of creative code and in the CMMAS in the field of algorithmic music composition and live coding.
