Factory Media Centre is thrilled to announce that Ardyn Gibbs will be joining us as our June – July 2024 &NOW Artist-in-Residence.
During their residency Ardyn will explore what it means to exist as a visibly queer person in public spaces while exploring what queer futures could look like. Through the use of various digital new media technologies including 3D rendered animations, VR (Virtual Reality), and AR (Augmented Reality) activations, Ardyn will reimagine space through a queer futurist lens. Their work will explore concepts of digital dreaming, reclamation, queer bodies, public space, visibility/legibility, and the importance of digital space as a means of placemaking for queer and trans folks.
About the Artist:
Ardyn Gibbs (they/them) is a queer and trans, settler-Indigenous (Mohawk) artist and arts worker located on the territories of the Haudenosaunee, Anishnaabe, and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation otherwise known as Hamilton, ON. Using digital new media technologies Ardyn’s work explores themes of queer futurism, digital dreaming, and visibility/legibility of queer bodies in public spaces. Ardyn is passionate about collective dreaming, placekeeping, and fostering meaningful connections. Their work is constantly changing, adapting and growing with the world around them.
About the Project:
The project will activate the FMC space using VR, AR, and 3D renders to encourage critical thought and engagement from viewers, bridging the gap between physical spaces and digital technologies. Through the creation of spatial and digital activations Ardyn seeks to explore queer futurity through collective dreaming.
About the Residency:
FMC’s &NOW Production Residency is an opportunity for artists and creators to utilize the space and resources at FMC to produce a new work or continue a developing body of work.
