Please join FMC for a 2-hour in-person workshop to explore and experiment with Instagram as a platform to create and exhibit multi-narrative and interactive stories. We will review techniques and practices of audio-visual storytelling / story-sharing through the possibilities of multimedia and social media platforms, creating an open-ended auto-ethnographic project using Instagram.
Objectives:
- Engage with interactive audio-visual practices on social media platforms.
- Acquire strategies to experiment with multi-narrative storytelling / story-sharing.
- Design and produce an audio-visual work using the Instagram platform.
Workshop Setup/Requirements:
- Cellphone with internet access (no specific brand but must run Instagram app).
- Computer or cellphone with access to simple video editing software.
- Headphones
- Instagram app installed + Instagram account.
- Personal video-archival material (more instructions will be sent to participants).

About the Instructor:
Jessica A. Rodriguez
Mexico/Canada. Multimedia artist, designer and researcher. I am currently studying a doctorate program in Communications, New Media, & Cultural Studies at McMaster. My practice and research projects focus on audiovisual practices such as visual music, electronic literature, video experimentation, sound art, visualization/sonification, and live coding, among others, and collaborating with composers, writers, designers, and other visual artists. I am co-founder of andamio.in, a collaboration platform that uses digital and analogue technologies to explore text, visuals, and audio. I am also part of RGGTRN, a collective that engages in algorithmic dance music and audiovisual improvisation informed by Latinx experiences. I currently hold the position of Chair of the Art Board at the Factory Media Centre located in Hamilton, Canada, a not-for-profit artist-driven resource centre dedicated to the production and promotion of creatively diverse forms of independent films, videos, and other streaming multimedia art forms.
