Course Description:
Learn to use various darkroom techniques and equipment to process motion picture images yourself. In this workshop, you will be shooting Super 8mm black and white motion picture reversal film. Reversal provides a positive image that can be projected directly after processing. Students will shoot, process and review images all in the same day. Whether you seek to create surprising process-based images or test out ideas quickly, this workshop provides useful skills for adventurous analog artists.
About Instructor Derek Jenkins:
Derek Jenkins is a writer and filmmaker living in Hamilton, Ontario. His master’s thesis at the University of Arkansas focused on white southern masculinity and the films of Ross McElwee. Before immigrating to Canada in 2008, he wrote a weekly sports column at the Arkansas Times and worked in a variety of capacities with the Oxford American. Prior to joining the Niagara Custom Lab team in late 2015, he was a faculty member in Language Studies at Mohawk College. His interests include handmade culture, poetry, documentary practice and personal filmmaking.
Derek’s current exhibition, The E6 Process, is on view at Factory Media Centre as part of the Sonic Art Series until March 31.
